The other part of the movie worth noting is while it had
humor, it was a more serious story with less of the dead pan campy movie lingo
he's used in his other films. He didn't go over the top with it in this one. Not
that it didn't work for Reservoir Dogs,
Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Kill Bill it
did very, very well, but his intentional overuse of cliques and non-stop
violent gore has been done again, again in his movies and as well as most of
the other movies made in Hollywood of this genre today.
It's great to see him recover from Death Proof which I didn't
care for that much. I did like the ending of that one but the first 1 ½ hours
of it killed it with was maybe the worst script he’s every attempted to direct. I
know he was going for a certain 70’s B movie feel but it failed miserably and
bored me.
I highly recommend Inglourious Basterds, it’s something
different and the best part is you have no idea what is going to happen in the
end. Too many movies made today are so predictable, at least for me, so 15
minutes in I’m like well, Seen that, done that, been there so many times
before.
Tarantino is a great Director when has a good story and a
great cast of actors to draw from. Since most of the canned Hollywood movies
these days have been so horrible the last few years Inglourious Basterds rises
to the top even though it may not be Tarantino’s best effort. I’d give it a B+
if this weren’t the case but today in this climate of bad films I have to give
it an A-.
It entertains you, holds you to the end and even though it's a 2 ½ hour movie you won't notice the time because the story works so well. It's worth the price of admission go check it out.
