Overreaching Powers

The Patriot Act reality.

I was a defender of the Patriot Act in general principle after 9/11 when it was proposed because my understanding was it was only going to be used to hunt down known or suspected terrorists. In the last several days after learning about the massive size and scope of the law I have to admit now it was a big mistake giving the government these kinds of overreaching powers. Knowing what we all know now the law has to be drastically altered or better yet abolished.

When Barack Obama says,” trust the government” I just can’t believe that gathering phone records of millions of innocent Americans is a very” trusting act” nor is it really keeping us any safer from terrorism.

As we’ve seen any number of times in his administration abuse of power is just his normal MO or "Chicago style politics.” Fast and Furious, the IRS targeting Conservatives, the IRS spending $4.1 million on what was basically a lavish vacation, the DOJ secretly subpoenaing the private phonerecords of AP reporters, the Benghazi cover up, the recent graft grab by EPA employees, the billions of taxpayers’ dollars blown on alternative energy companies gone bankrupt, the failed GM and Chrysler bailouts, the massive Obamacare boondoggle that is basically an enormous tax that 75% of the people polled said they didn’t want and still don’t want and now this incredible phone records story.

If anyone really believes that you can “trust” the government to use this information for security and terrorism prevention only look no farther than how the IRS was basically used as a political tool to deny groups on the right their freedom of political expression. By the way, this is the same IRS that is suppose to enforce and collect on the new Obamacare laws next year and we can “trust” them to enforce the law equally?

Do you honestly believe the phone records of people who are politically on the right wouldn’t be tempting information used by power hungry liberal bureaucrats that may find a way to use it against them?

This phone records story was a tipping point, yesterday I called all of the Oregon US Congressional Representatives and demanded that impeachment hearings begin for Obama, enough is enough. I urge others to do likewise because the Obama loving lapdog mainstream media isn’t going to go to bat for freedom or fairness.

Maybe now NSA’s Prism program will check my phone records and put me on a terrorist watch list. Maybe the IRS will audit me because I’m speaking out against the most corrupt President and his no less guilty group of minions in the executive branch, that have ever cursed our country. Bring it on, I'm right here!

Passage of Obamacare, a Sad Day for America

Last night I watched CSPAN with sadness, disappointment, contempt and anger as the House passed the National Healthcare Bill. Somehow I believed that some of the moderate Democrats would grow a pair and it wouldn’t pass but to no avail. Democrats in this Congress have proven time and again they can be bought off, bribed or coerced into anything the Messiah wants or believes is best for us.

I can’t think of a time in my 50 years where I have ever been more frustrated with my government and my country as I am today. My generation has went through Vietnam, Watergate, the Carter years, Slick Willie, the Wall Street Collapse, the George W. bank and auto bailouts, the Climategate fraud and now this disaster. The majority of Americans overwhelmingly said NO to this monstrosity but it fell on the deaf ear of the jackasses in DC.

This Health Care Bill tops all the other government scandals combined times 10. Why oh why would we actually believe or trust the incompetents in Washington to control the single biggest personal right and choice we have as Americans? Does anyone actually believe this isn’t going to cost us a truck load of money and gives us less freedom or personal choices for Health Care?

No need to look farther than Social Security, Medicaid or Medicare to find the answer which isn’t even addressed in this bill. All have billions and billions in unfunded liabilities but Democrats say trust us, this $1 trillion dollar program will be different, its budget neutral, won’t cost us a thing and will in fact reduce the deficit? Really? What new math are they using?

This massive Socialist Health Care Bill aka Ponzi scheme makes the Bernie Madoff Wall Street rip off look like a $20 7/11 Three Stooges robbery gone wrong.

It’s hard to comprehend how most sensible and reasonable people on either side would not be absolutely outraged by this unprecedented power grab. Either people are hopelessly ignorant to the facts and past history or don’t have a grasp of basic economics or are just so beaten down and apathetic they don’t give a damn. Maybe it’s combination of all of the above.

Reform is what was needed not another centralized government bureaucracy to rob the honest hard working taxpayers. Did you know that 43% of Americans do not pay a single penny in federal income tax? So that means 43% have no vested interest or outrage in having 30% to 50% of their paychecks sucked away in Federal, State, Local, Property or Capital Gains taxes. They of course love this bill because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

 

Unfortunately the taxpayers will take another hard kick in the gonads while they reap the benefits of our blood, sweat and tears while they sacrifice nothing.

This isn’t about being compassionate and greedy we all want people to get the healthcare they need but the uninsured also need to understand that nothing in this life is free and someone somewhere will have to pick up the tab.

The United States is the greatest country on earth because you have the right and individual freedom to go as far as your will and talent will take you. The dangerous road our so called Congressional Representatives went down yesterday puts us ever closer to the cliff of a hard Socialism.

The sad thing Obama is just getting started, next up is Immigration Reform, Cap & Trade, and a VAT (Value Added Tax). If the Democrats can get Immigration rammed through before November they’ll add millions of undocumented workers to their side come election time.

The only way to stop this is by going to the voting booth in November. Register today and get involved by helping and contributing to the candidates who want to put the brakes on this never ending Washington spending bender.

Prayer wouldn’t hurt either, God help us fight a peaceful civil rebellion and get our country back.

Why have the Democrats continued to let this ultra-liberal socialist be the House Majority leader pushing through this crazy National Health Care scam, or should I say scare, that is nothing more than a massive tax on middle class Americans?

Millions of people are being duped into believing that this bill will save individual Americans and the federal government billions in costs. Think again read paragraph 4 in this WSJ article. It couldn’t be farther from the truth, look at the numbers. Its official, Obama’s pledge to not tax people under $250,000 a year was just another hallow campaign pledge, in simpler terms a bald face lie.

People who love watching the day in day out Obama Health Care Infomercial which most major media outlets endorse, need to get a cold slap in the face and wake up to what’s really going on. This bill will be yet another massive tax levied on us by the most liberal Congress and President to hold power in the history of the country.

It’s a very simple, either you’re for the federal government and a group of bureaucrats dictating what kind of health care choices you have while taxing you into the poor house or you want the freedom to pay for your own private health care insurance. I choose the latter. At my age and income, I should have the right to pay for my own and not be told by some bureaucrat how to take care of myself or unfairly taxed for those who don’t or won’t (even if they have the money to buy it) pay for it on their own.

Why in the world would we trust the feds to do a better job to run our health care programs? Anyone who has been paying attention to what’s been going on in the last year and half can see that government has patently failed on almost every level of trying to quick fix the economy, banking and the auto industry. Why, tell me why, should we trust them to run a single payer health care program that would cost us billions more and add untold trillion’s in debt to an already bankrupt nation?

It’s pathological insanity and incredibly naive to believe that somehow they’ll get this one right when they’ve have been so completely wrong about everything else. I just don’t understand how anyone with good common sense would not be totally outraged by this socialist health care boondoggle Obama, Pelosi and the Democrats want to ram down our paychecks.

I think for whatever reason the people who voted for Obama wanted to believe the best in him and trust him to do the right thing because he comes across as some likeable charismatic figure that gives a good speech and seems to mean well. This just isn’t the case.

Tragically I think it may be just be a general apathy that’s infected so many uninformed people they just don’t give a damn anymore and they’ve developed this, “none of this stuff will affect me attitude.” The longer we hold onto this ignorant selfish thinking, the quicker we'll lose our individual freedoms and turn into a Marxist Socialist State. Is that what we want? Maybe if we ignore it or not give a damn it’ll fix itself right? Think again, we are under assault right now and it’s time to speak out and put it to a stop to it TODAY before it’s too late.

The Oregon Reaper and Uncle Sam

I’m fed up with paying the kind of taxes I’m required by law to pay while the government bureaucrats continue to spend our money like there is literally and figuratively no tomorrow.

One of the many reasons why Jenny and I left California in 2006 was in the hope of lowering our tax burden. Honestly, between the Federal and California State taxes that we were being heaped upon us we could have funded a small country in Africa.

California’s has some of the highest state taxes in the nation and even now in this economic slump Schwarzenegger and the state legislature’s answer was not to cut state spending but to increase taxes. Surprise, surprise!! The tax referendums failed on a ballet vote not long ago so at least the idiots in the ivory towers in Sacramento were forced into making spending cuts and to make long overdue reductions in government services. Here, here what a concept, if you don’t have the money you tighten your belt in hard times. That’s what we are required to do right?

So now we live in the beautiful green State of Oregon but things are not so “green” in Salem (The State Capitol) in fact they’re seeing ”red.” Maybe some of you Oregonians didn’t know this but the unemployment rate in our state now is at 12.4% the second highest in the nation behind Michigan at 14.1%. So what is the Oregon State legislature’s answer to cure own economic ills? You guess it they want to pass a $2 billion tax hike. You think I’m making this up? Here’s an excerpt from an article from the Wall Street Journal yesterday. The title of the article is:

“The Labor Department reported yesterday that Oregon's unemployment rate soared to 12.4% in May, the nation's second highest after Michigan's 14.1%. What to do? If you're the geniuses in the state legislature in Salem, you naturally raise taxes.

Last week the legislature approved a $2 billion tax hike on personal income and small businesses that haven't already left the state. The highest tax rate on income above $500,000 would climb to 11% -- up from an already high 9%. Oregon will soon boast the second highest income tax rate in the nation, moving ahead of California (10.55%), and only slightly behind New York City (12.6%). Corporations will pay a 7.9% tax on gross receipts, up from 6.6%.

But that isn't the worst of it. Another revenue raiser will tax hospitals and private health insurance premiums. That's a good way to encourage private employers to drop their health coverage for workers.

In Oregon, as in so many states this year, lawmakers had to choose between reducing the growth of spending and raising taxes. No contest. So government spending will climb by about $2 billion, or almost 4%, which is on top of a 21% increase in the 2007-08 biennium budgets. The sliver of good news is that taxpayer groups like Americans for Prosperity of Oregon are promising to put these taxes before the voters in a referendum this year or next. Since Salem's politicians seem intent on following California's, maybe Oregon's voters will do the same and just say no.”

California and Oregon tax and spend bureaucrats must be holding hands or passing notes. Maybe they didn’t get the memo, raising taxes in maybe the worst economy since the great depression may not be a good idea, especially when we’re experiencing such a high unemployment rate.

We must sacrifice and they don’t, is this how it supposed to work? Keep the big state government machine greased no matter what the cost and tax the citizens of Oregon into complete oblivion.

You’d think the real way to spurn economic recovery would be to reduce taxes not increase them. Do you think small businesses will thrive in Oregon with more taxes, will more people find jobs? Forget small businesses, I’ll sure sleep better at night knowing that a State employee in a make work job didn’t lose his. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing I’m keeping another pencil pusher busy doing nothing but collecting a generous taxpayer funded paycheck.

Day by day, week by week, month by month, government leaders not just in Oregon or California but in Washington as well are not willing to make the tough decisions we need to get back to fiscal sanity. We must put a halt to this drunken spending bender.

BTW Oregonians if think this is bad news do you honestly believe Obama’s campaign pledge that only the so called “rich” people making over $250,000 will be the only people to see an increase in taxes?

Obama wants to pass a massive National Health Care bill, an even larger National Energy Tax bill and there’s even been discussion about a National Sales Tax and we middle class taxpayers won’t be required to chip in a dime? What kind of fool really believes that all these new massive government programs are going to be “free” for all us working folks? Denial, apathy and “Oh, none of this is going to affect me” nonsense has to come to an end. Make no mistake, maybe not today, tomorrow, next week, next month or next year but one day all the over fed government chickens will come home to roost and you and I my friends WILL pick a catastrophic tab.
